The Saundersfoot bowling green was officially opened last Saturday with the first wood of the new season being bowled by Martyn Williams BEM on behalf of the community council.
Apologies were given for the chairman of the council, Anthony Mattick, and club chairman, Myrddin Dennis, who were on holiday.
Everyone was welcomed by club president, Ann Lewis, who wished everyone a successful and enjoyable summer.
The weather had unfortunately meant that the traditional roll up was not possible, but the many members present enjoyed a few hours in the clubhouse, with a buffet provided by Diane Rigden and the ladies, catching up on their winter activities.
If the weather permits, there will be a friendly between the men and the ladies tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, with the men playing host to Kidwelly on Sunday in another friendly encounter.
Christmas play
Although Christmas seems far away, preparations are already being made for the club’s seasonal entertainment.
If any member is interested in taking part, then auditions are being held on Monday, April 23, at 6 pm, in the clubhouse.
Congratulations
Best wishes to Myrddin and Hayley Dennis who celebrated their silver wedding anniversary last weekend.
Where they went, no-one knows, but I’m sure they enjoyed themselves.
Well done Kath
Kath Blayney has had a busy and successful year.
She became the West Wales Ladies Bowling Association Autumn Cup singles champion last August and in September won the Saundersfoot Ladies Singles Championship for the first time, plus the two-wood singles.
Throughout the winter, she has been travelling most weekends as the Welsh Ladies Indoor Bowling Association past president as well as treasurer and visited Scotland, Nottingham and Bristol for international series.
Somehow she managed to fit in some bowling (and spend some time with Paul!), adding the Heatherton Ladies Singles title to her CV at the end of March, also winning the senior pairs with Collette Bethwaite.
Kath is hoping to enjoy the outdoor season, before resuming her duties in the autumn as Welsh indoor treasurer.
