PLAY
The ‘guess the traitor’ evening took place at the clubhouse last Friday and the good crowd attending split into teams to act as the jury and see if they could identify the culprit.
The whole of the club was bedecked with Second World War propaganda posters, plus Union Jacks, with music of the era being played.
Set in the Second World War and devised by Lynne Reyed, the action took place at Scapa Flow, the chief British naval base in the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland.
Someone had been leaking military secrets to the Germans and the security services had narrowed the suspects down to five potential guilty parties, Commodore Winston Brandmorton, played by Dennis Reed, Captain George Hamilton, played by Graham Hughes, Mrs. Abigail Hamilton, played by Lynne herself, Charlotte Lovejoy, played by Val James, and Hilda Baxter, played by Sue Roden.
Criminal barrister Reginald Digdeep, played by Paul Blayney, firstly set the scene which was followed by a short sketch to give a little insight into the characters of the suspects.
Interrogations then took place, with the barrister and the audience attempting to separate the truth from the lies before, after their deliberations, each team had to make their choice of who was guilty and why.
As no-one except Lynne knew the answer, not even the cast, the surprising verdict was that the Commodore was the traitor, with the winning team, who were the only one to guess correctly, being Paul Sneyd, Roger Sneyd, Ken James and Kath Blayney.
Much hilarity ensued when Dennis was asked to leave the room to be escorted by the military police to await his fate.
Thanks must obviously go firstly to Lynne for her imaginative script, the members of the cast and those who provided a small buffet and brought raffle prizes.
Also, thanks to Dai Davies for manning the bar and club chairman Myrddin Dennis who was in charge of lighting and background music.
The next production by the Saundersfoot Bowling Club Amateur Dramatic Society is likely to be a pantomime with a difference and is scheduled for next Christmas.
Between now and then, the cast may be able to fit in some bowling!
QUIZ
The club are holding their annual quiz night on Thursday, February 15, with the first questions being asked at 7.30 pm.
If Dennis can persuade the military to be released from prison for the evening, he will be asking the questions, assisted as always by Graham Hughes.
The entry fee is £2.50 per person and the evening is kindly being sponsored by the Hyundai Garage in Kilgetty.
