ST. ISSELL’S MEN - The St Issells men travelled to Milford Haven last week to play top of the table St. Kaths and were defeated by 73 shots to 64, picking up two points for one winning rink.

Their ‘winner takes all’ clash with Neyland to decide which team would progress to this year’s second division cup final was another victim of the British weather, with the match having to be abandoned after just four ends.

The date to complete the game will be Friday, July 14, at 6 pm.

The team play Fishguard at home tomorrow at 2 pm and next Thursday play a rearranged match against Pater of Pembroke Dock, also at home at 6 pm.

ST. ISSELL’S LADIES

Three matches in eight days produced a good return of 14 out of 18 points for the St. Issell’s ladies last week.

First up was Milford away which saw a maximum haul of six points in a narrow win by 42 shots to 39.

Sandra Ingerson, Lyn Statters, Kath Blayney and Shirley Cox defeated the Julie Morgan four by 23 shots to 21, whilst Lynne Reyed, Jackie Ford, Christine Ball and Christine Harris beat the home rink skipped by Sylvia Davies by 19 shots to 18.

The next day, Tasker of Haverfordwest visited the village green and again the girls took all six points in a 43 shots to 16 win.

Brenda Davies, Christine Ball, Kath Blayney and Sue Roden defeated Win Howells by 20 shots to 11 and Lynne Reyed, Jackie Ford, Sandra Ingerson and Christine Harris gained a creditable 23 shots to five win over Mandy Lewis.

Last Sunday, playing away at Tenby, they suffered a six-shot defeat, but picked up two points with captain Sue Roden’s rink defeating Gill Rose by two shots, but Shirley Cox losing to Gerry Brutnell by eight.

They should also have played Pembroke Dock Park ladies last week, but yes, you’ve guessed it, the weather intervened and the match will have to be rearranged.

Tomorrow (Saturday), they were due to play at home to Fishguard, but as that team have had to withdraw from the league, will now host Neyland instead in a match that was due to be played on July 30, but has had to be rescheduled due to a clash with the West Wales Ladies Bowling Association game against Mid Wales at Brecon.

SAUNDERSFOOT MEN

There were no league matches played last weekend due to the county finals taking place and the local derby is next up for the Saundersfoot first division team with a visit to play Tenby next Wednesday at 6 pm.

COUNTY FINALS

Commiserations to the Saundersfoot rink of Graham Hughes, Paul Blayney, Steve Poole and Joe Dennis who just lost out on a county title last Sunday at Pembroke Dock in the most unfortunate circumstances, losing by just one, 22 shots to 21.

OPEN WEEK

A reminder that the closing date for entries for the club’s annual Open Week competitions is next Monday, July 10, and we still need members to volunteer to mark games and help on the bar.

COUNTY NEWS

Congratulations to our county ladies who defeated Ceredigion last Saturday at Pendine in the Savegar County Cup competition.

Top rink included two Saundersfoot members in Gemma Amos and Kath Blayney who, together with Sara John Davies, of Haverfordwest, and Ysie White, of Tenby, were victorious over the Anwen Button four by 29 shots to 12 in an overall win of 22 shots.

Having won their first two matches, they will now travel to Brecon to play Mid Wales on July 30, with an opportunity to reach their third final in succession.

The two county men’s teams have matches in the coming days.

On Sunday, the main county boys travel to play Monmouthshire at Beaufort (please note change of venue from Panteg Park), whilst on Tuesday, the seniors play West Glamorgan at the Ynys club in Port Talbot.

Good luck to them all.
