The 2023 final of the SA Brain Cup Competition saw the Pembrokeshire Second Division teams of the Pendine Club and Haverfordwest St Thomas with a full complement of their best players available for the match played at Fishguard and Goodwick’s green.

The green was presented in tip-top condition on a dry day but with a very strong south-westerly wind blowing which made the bowling conditions tricky at times.

After a slow start over the first 5 ends Pendine were trailing by 4 shots but by the mid-point of the match Pendine had leapt into a 27 shot lead and were comfortably ahead on 2 of the 4 rinks.

St Thomas however showed tenacity and clawed back 12 shots over the next 5 ends but ran out of steam as Pendine put in a strong finish over the closing ends to run out winners of the Brain’s Cup by a final score of 98 shots to 70.

The teams were (Pendine rinks first):

A Edwards, R Bramhall, R Davies, M Evans (27) J Barby, H Thomas, A Wills, J Rogers (13).
