LADIES

Heatherton ladies played a friendly match at Bro Myrrdin on Saturday - all teams were neck-and-neck and going into the final end of the match the scores were level at 79-79, but with a big push, the Heatherton ladies managed to make two shots to take overall victory.

The afternoon was played in good spirit and produced some very good bowling. Thank you to the Bro Myrrdin ladies for their hospitality and we look forward to seeing them in the autumn.

Over 60s

Last Wednesday saw Heatherton’s Over 60s team play their last section league game away at The Meads Stadium, Milford Haven, whose members are fighting hard to retain their bowling facility.

It’s a facility which greatly benefits young and old, male and female alike, including paraplegic bowlers (two of whom won bronze medals in the Southern Hemisphere’s Bowls World Games (one from the Meads and one from Heatherton IBC, plus a lady from Radnor IBC).

Although both teams had a couple of regulars missing due to illness etc., Heatherton, as a whole, played extremely well throughout the match on this well-lit carpet.

Each rink was on form and after 10 ends, rink one, skipped by Ken Taylor, led 14-8 against Keith Thorpe’s rink, while on rink two, skipped by Dai Davies in the absence of Richard Whittaker, the Heatherton crew were 8-3 up on Richard Jones’s four.

Rink three, under skip Mal Evans, roared into a 13-4 lead over Wilko’s boys, while rink four, under the guidance of skip Henry John, was 12-6 up.

Three rinks got themselves into unassailable positions to win comfortably, but rink two was a much tighter affair and saw Richard Jones’s four pull back to trail by just 13-14 after the 20th end. They were then holding two shots when Heatherton second Eric Dezille moved the jack towards the ditch to be one down, only for Richard and his third to put in three more shots to hold a winning position, before skip Dai Davies bowled a superb last bowl to draw shot to win 15-13.

A great day’s play and the culmination of Heatherton’s over 60s league season.

Rink scores (Heatherton first, Meads skips only) were as follows:

H. Davies, K. Davies, T. Harries, K. Taylor 34; K. Thorpe 14.

J. Rees, E. Dezille, R. Morgan, D. Davies 15; R. Jones 13.

J. Shields, J. Lewis, D. King Thomas, M. Evans 31; T. Wilks 12.

M. Evans, B. Dooley, R. Prince, H. John 28; B. Cale 12.

Heatherton 14 pts, Meads 0.
