YOUNGSTERS IMPRESS

A young team of Heatherton Juniors travelled to play in the Welsh Fours competition at the Selwyn Samuel Centre in Llanelli on Saturday.

They were up against a formidable host club rink, featuring a number of Welsh internationals and skipped by Jordan Driscoll, who last year won the British Under 18s pairs title with Seren Jones, of the Dinefwr club.

Also at lead for the Llanelli rink was another familiar figure to local bowlers, namely Dion Peregrine, the current Pembrokeshire Under 18s outdoor champion, himself an international and a regular with the championship-winning Tenby side last summer.

But the Heatherton youngsters were far from overawed by the occasion and produced an excellent display of bowling as they matched their opponents throughout.

In fact, they shared the ends 6-6 in the closely contested 12-end game, and it was only an unfortunate dropped count of five on one of them which saw them eventually go down by 10 shots to six.

It was a great game to watch, with the talented Heatherton youngsters doing both their club and parents proud. Well done to you all.

Heatherton team was: skip Dylan Hughes, third Katie Dickinson, second Joe Disney and lead Rhys Hughes.

A great morning’s bowling for the Heatherton men’s over 60s team against Bro Myrddin at home last Thursday - a match played in good spirit by all involved, resulting in an overall win for the visiting team, 77 shots to 75, each team winning two rinks.
