Pembrokeshire were crowned double rink champions on Sunday winning the Welsh Bowling Association’s annual event for the first time.

The side of eight selected included junior and senior internationals and two of the current Welsh triples champions.

After defeat against Montgomeryshire in their first match, Pembrokeshire bounced back to chalk up wins against Monmouthshire, South Glamorgan - whose side featured Wales’ Commonwealth Games gold medalist Marc Wyatt - and Mid Wales.

Pembrokeshire was represented by John Roberts, Andrew Muskett, Chris Court and Ryan Thomas (all Tenby) and Andrew Evans (Whitland), Peter Day (Tenby), Steve Reese and Mike John (Whitland).

Each county in Wales was represented at the competition held at Llandrindod Wells.

WBA president Alun Hodges presented the shield to Pembrokeshire captain Andrew Muskett.

Andrew said: “It was a great day for Pembrokeshire bowls. All eight of us played well as a team. I’m proud of all the players and thank our manager Colin Wynn for his support.”

Colin added: “I’m over the moon with the success on Sunday. The boys have certainly shown they are amongst the best in Wales and have put Pembrokeshire on the map. It’s a great start to the season.”
