VALERO PAIRS

Those present at the Valero Pairs Final on the Tenby Bowling Club premises in Sutton Street on Sunday witnessed an audacious smash and grab - but they won't be calling the police.

At 11-3 up and just two ends to play, the Brynhyfryd pairing of Robin Burden and Dylan Williams looked to have their hands well and truly on the winners' valuable glass trophy. But they - and all those watching - were slow to recognise the familiar figures of Chris Price and Chris Berry, both well known in the Ystradfechan area, proceed to winkle the prize from the grasp of the champions-to-be.

Showing a never-say-die attitude, allied to great skill, the two Chris's sealed their famous victory with scores of five and four in the final two ends, to leave them victorious by 12 shots to 11, and the Brynhyfryd duo had to leave the resort empty-handed.

The match was a fitting finalé to another enjoyable and competitive tournament, held in glorious sunshine, but with the first nips of autumn stabbing the early morning air each day.

Paul Diment and Lee Williamson (above were the last Tenby men standing, falling in the semi-finals to the eventual champions, while the pairing of Mike and Tony Duckfield - both great supporters of our bowls tournaments in Tenby - also fell at that stage.O nce again, we wish to thank Valero for their continuing support of the tournament.
