Carruthers

The Layton and Co Solicitors sponsored Tenby team unfortunately failed at the semi-final stage of the Carruthers competition in Llandrindod Wells last Saturday.

Worthy victors by 81-71 were a very talented RTB Ebbw Vale team, who later in the day went on to win the shield outright.

With such a young side performing at this level, it is still an amazing effort and congratulations to all involved.

Special mention to the supporters who followed the Tenby team right throughout the campaign, and Tenby Bowling Club for supplying various buses for all the away trips.

Congratulations to the Pembrokeshire U25 double rink champions who lifted the trophy in Llandod the following day. The team included some of Tenby's finest who were Luke and Craig Guymer, Luke Rees, Aaron Lloyd, Cameron White, Ben Simmons and Ben Cloake.

Better news for the Tenby team in the league last Monday night. A 12 points to two victory over Whitland certainly puts one hand on the league championship trophy with two matches to go.

Pendine 82

Five Arches 69

Always a tricky game Pendine away, but the Five Arches team played well. We picked up three points with fine performances from the rinks of Tony and Ben and solid performances from the rinks of Ashley and Clive. We're still fighting to avoid relegation.

Rink scores (Arches first, Pendine skips only):

Ben Sheldon, Tony Powling, Ken Lloyd, Ashley Hooper 19; Mal Evans 24.

Mike Gouldingay, Stuart Askew, John Hubbard, Clive Webb 11; Arwel Edwards 22.

John Rees, Joe Hewitt, Peter Hooper, Ben Simmons 20; Stuart King Thomas 17.

Howard Jordan, Harry Meades, Steve Davies, Tony Brown 19; Dave King Thomas 19.

Five Arches 67 Haverfordwest 102

Up against a strong Haverfordwest team, we did well to pick up two points. A superb performance from Ben and his rink (again) led the way, but the strength of the Haverfordwest boys showed on the remaining three rinks where they racked up some big scores to win the game comfortably.

Rink scores (Arches first, Haverfordwest skips only):

Mike Gouldingay, John Hubbard, Harold Ebdon, Clive Webb 15; Richard O'Leary 23.

Ben Sheldon, Harry Meades, Steve Davies, Tony Brown 15; PDS Jenkins 34.

Stuart Askew, Tony Powling, Ken Lloyd, Ashley Hooper 9; Chris Court 32.

John Rees, Joe Hewitt, Peter Hooper, Ben Simmons 28; Ryan Thomas 13.

Tenby 113

Five Arches 48

Tenby are one of the best teams in Wales so this was going to be hard for the Five Arches. Comprehensive wins on three of the rinks by Tenby ensured they had a comfortable victory, however, the sacrificial rink skipped by Tony pushed Welsh Under 25 international Craig Guymer all the way to the final end before losing by only four shots.

Rink scores (Arches first, Tenby skips only):

Mike Gouldingay, John Hubbard, Harold Ebdon, Clive Webb 6; Andrew Muskett 35.

John Rees, Joe Hewitt, Tony Brown, Peter Hooper 11; John Roberts 30.

Ken Lloyd, Steve Davies, Ray Taylor, Ashley Hooper 16; Paul Diment 29.

Stuart Askew, Harry Meades, Jim Taylor, Tony Powling 15; Craig Guymer 19.

Five Arches 51 Whitland 98

Another week, another tough game. Every point is important now as we have slipped behind Milford at the bottom of the table. However, Whitland are a good bowling team and showed it, easy wins on three rinks and our only bright spot, Ashley's rink just coming up short against Gold Cup champion Steve Reese.

Rink scores (Arches first, Whitland skips only):

John Rees, Joe Hewitt, Tony Brown, Peter Hooper 12; Glyndwr Thomas 26.

Stuart Askew, Harry Meades, Jim Taylor, Tony Powling 13; Alan Whitehouse 33.

Dewi McGhee, Steve Davies, Ken Lloyd, Ashley Hooper 15; Steve Reese 16.

Mike Gouldingay, John Hubbard, Harold Ebdon, Clive Webb 11; Colin Wynn 23.

With only one game left, a monumental display is required in Milford tomorrow (Saturday). I believe we will need to win on all four rinks and also rely on other teams doing us a favour.

TENBY 112 WESTON 101

Weston BC from Bath were the visitors to the green last week. Gales and heavy rain in the morning made playing the game doubtful, but the secretary's satellite said 'clearing by 2 pm' and sure enough everyone enjoyed a pleasant afternoon in the sun.

Due to the shortage of club members, we were pleased to welcome Steve James and his rink from Pembroke Dock, who always enjoy coming to our green.

Playing on rink one with Steve skipping but Betty in charge, they got off to a great start, and by restricting their opponents to scoring on just five ends, won by a margin of 15 shots.

On rink two, with Cameron at skip, the home rink were six shots up at tea, but failed to score on the next seven ends. Although they came back towards the end, they went down by five.

Despite being one player short, Jonno, Harry E and Goldie were on top form on rink three. Picking up two counts of six, a four and three 3s, they cruised to a more than comfortable victory.

On rink four, with Alison and Steve in control and Ray and Brian leading well up front, they were always ahead. A count of six on the 15th end helped to make the game safe, and a win by 12 shots.

Playing on five, Ray, Jim and Carol more than held their own against an experienced rink, and were one up at tea. An even second half saw them two down going into the last end, which the visitors took to win by three.

The home rink, with Tony at skip, were in another close game on six. Again all-square at tea, they dropped two counts of four on the next two ends (those extra cream cakes were probably the reason) and they eventually conceded victory by seven.

This was a good result against a team playing well on tour.

Quote of the day: "It was worth travelling from Bath just to play on your green. Superb." Praise indeed.

Rinkl scores (Tenby first, Weston skips only) were:

A. Benn, R. Duncan, B. James, S. James skip 22; J. Haley 7.

S. Askew, G. Beeken, H. Ebdon 15; D. Michesson 20.

M. Gouldingay, H. Meades, J. Hubbard 23; T. Dagger 18.

B. Winstone, R. French, S. Davies, A. Redman 23; D. Newman 11.

M. Skyrme, I. French, K. Lloyd, T. Brown 17; R. Watts 24.

C. Lloyd, J. Taylor, R. Taylor 17; M. Gill 21.

• Tenby scores include deduction of 25 per cent on two rinks.

Bonus Ball

Winner with number 41 was Helen Spencer.
