TENBY 79 (10 pts.)

SAUNDERSFOOT 76 (4)

The Layton and Co Solicitors sponsored Tenby side travelled to local rivals Saundersfoot last week.

On what was quite a reasonable night weather-wise for this so-called summer (it did rain on the last few ends), the two teams took to the green for what is always a battle royal.

Playing on the inner rinks, Luke Rees, Kevin Lewis, Peter Day and Andrew Muskett were drawn on rink two. With Luke up front back to his best and Dough Boy always 'up', Peter and Wigan kept punishing the opposition throughout the contest, resulting in an impressive 17-shot win.

Ben Cloake, debut man James Criddle, Jon Webb and John Roberts were on rink three. This was a tight tussle from the off, with the Tenby rink getting a good start, but then the Saundersfoot men hit back with some excellent bowling. This game could have gone either way, but J.R. just managed to steer his men to a slender four-shot victory.

Cameron White, John Baggott, Joe Richards and Luke Guymer were on rink four. This contest was quite close early on, but the opposition foursome started pulling away at the halfway stage. Try as they might, the Tenby rink could not pull it back and a 15-shot defeat was the end result.

Neil Dickinson, Steve Sheldon, Dai Spencer and Craig Guymer were involved in what can only be described as a game of two halves. The Tenby foursome were totally outplayed for the first 12 ends, and with a deficit of 16 shots to make-up, they gradually clawed their way back into the contest. Unfortunately, though, they just could not get their noses in front, losing out by only three shots at the death.

Three shots overall was the winning margin, giving Tenby a 10 to four points haul in their quest to retain the Pembrokeshire championship.

With a few key players missing, Tenby once more had done just enough to maintain their unbeaten record in the league, but all credit must go to all of the Saundersfoot lads who battled until the last.

TENBY ARCHES 50 PICTON 31

The Tenby Arches (sponsored by The Fourcroft Hotel) played host to Picton last Wednesday. We were very lucky with the weather - hooray, no rain.

Rink five, skipped by Gerry Brutnell, saw the home side in front throughout the game. They were 18-1 up at tea and finished 28-8.

Rink six, skipped by Alison Redman, was a different matter. The game was very tight, with the home side 12-11 at tea, but the Picton side finished the victors 23-22.

Rink scores (Tenby team first, Picton skips only) were:

C. Lloyd, L. Evans, V. Williams, G. Brutnell 28; P. Langdon 8.
