This former chapel for sale has been completely transformed on the interior while still retaining its character.
Zion Chapel, in Begelly, was originally built in 1828 as a Calvinistic Methodist chapel, with a swell in membership 1850 after the previous year’s winter brought cholera to the town.

An injured miner, Philip Gunter, ran a small school in the chapel, and is the namesake for the neighbouring school, which was built in 1845.
The chapel was rebuilt in 1866, and remained busy until the 1930s, when the size of the congregation declined.

Entered through hardwood double doors, the property is light and airy, with a living room that has an 18-foot high ceiling, a fireplace with a log burner, oak flooring and a bespoke staircase.
Also on the ground floor, there is a kitchen and diner with fitted units, a utility room and a cloakroom.

Upstairs, the landing is part-galleried and overlooks the living room, and leads to the primary bedroom, which has an en-suite shower room, a family bathroom, and two further bedrooms with countryside views.
Outside, there is a railed forecourt with a gate, as well as a gravelled driveway.

To the rear, there is a paved patio and shelter, a lawned garden with mature hedging and a plastic shed.
The property is being sold by estate agent Guy Thomas & Co for a price of £399,995.
The estate agent commented: “Zion Chapel is a very tastefully converted Grade II Listed Chapel which now offers well proportioned light and airy accommodation.
“It was built as a Calvinistic Methodist Chapel circa 1828 and retains various fine features including the tall, arched windows etc.”
