Local police are to be called in to help deal with skateboarding problems at Saundersfoot Harbour.

Officers are to be asked to operate a 'zero tolerance' policy by the Harbour Commissioners, who have once again had to consider the increasing bills for damage and nuisance caused to the public by youths skateboarding on the harbour.

At their recent monthly meeting, commissioners were told that repeated warnings from the harbourmaster had had little effect on the skateboarders' activities, and as often as not, when names were asked for, false ones were given.

"The commissioners now feel that all reasonable attempts to deal with the problem have failed, so the police have been called in," a spokesman told the Observer.

"They will be asked to operate a zero tolerance policy, with firm enforcement action taken against all those who break the harbour bylaws by skateboarding on the harbour area".

The Harbour Commissioners will also be taking similar action against those who ride bicycles in the area.

When contacted by the Observer, a spokesman at Tenby police station said that they were aware of this sort of anti-social behaviour and local beat officers would be monitoring the situation.
