Pembrokeshire's young writers will be letting the train take their inspirational strain next year. Members of Pembrokeshire's Young Writers Squad hope to use the county's scenic rail routes as a stimulus for their writing. Professional writer Dylan Adams will be conducting poetry and music workshops with the youngsters to promote journeys around Pembrokeshire by train. Arriva Trains Wales, which runs services in the county, will use the poems to create publicity posters for Pembrokeshire stations. And all those who take part will receive free rail tickets! The Rail Routes Poetry workshops will kickstart a packed programme of events in 2008 for the Writers Squad, which meets every Tuesday after school at Haverfordwest Library. The squad was set up by the county council's library service in 2006 to encourage youngsters aged 12 and over to express themselves through writing, be it poetry, prose or lyrics. Last summer, the squad developed scripts for a soap opera 'Here and Now', which was broadcast on the internet. Later this year, they will take part in scriptwriting sessions led by writers Dan Anthony and Dave Ainsworth. At the end of the season all the work created in squad sessions will be performed at the newly refurbished Torch Theatre. For more information about the squad contact Pam Harry, young people's librarian, on 01437 779920.
