A LOCAL solicitor is set to stage a courtroom drama in Pembroke next week.

Helen Hodges, who lives in Lamphey, has been the musical director of local amateur drama group 'The East End Flyover Company' for the past 15 years.

But with the company's next production being Agatha Christie's courtroom thriller 'Witness for the Prosecution' it was decided that Helen's legal experience made her the ideal choice to step into the director's shoes.

And not only is there a solicitor directing the play, it's actually being performed in a courtroom.

The wood-panelled magistrates court above Pembroke Town Hall has not been used for trials for several years, but all the furniture remains in place - right down to the dock and the witness box.

"It's a perfect setting for the play and the atmosphere that the courtroom creates is exactly right," said Flyover veteran Brian Rowe who plays the prosecuting solicitor Myers. "Of course, there are a few technical problems to be overcome, but we are well used to that sort of thing.

"We've performed in pubs, village halls and castles before now, so a courtroom shouldn't present too many difficulties."

'Witness for the Prosecution' will be performed on November 7, 8 and 9 at 7.30 pm. Tickets are available from the Pembroke Bookshop, 73 Main Street.
