Pembrokeshire's top young swimmers took part in another winter skills camp at the weekend.

Ten of the best swimmers from five county clubs pooled their talent at Pembroke Leisure Centre on Saturday, January 22.

The training camp was the third and last in a series of three winter camps organised by Pembrokeshire Leisure - Pembrokeshire County Council's leisure arm.

It followed a camp held at Milford Haven in October and a skills session at Crymych in November.

The nine to 12-year-olds were put through their paces by Paul Dowey, Pembrokeshire Leisure's swimming development coach.

He was joined by elite swimmers Michael Hire, Carys Thomas, Jonathan Orchard and Daniel Thomas from the Pembrokeshire Performance Squad, who shared their experience and knowledge with the young swimmers.

The youngsters took part in swim sessions, land training and team building tasks.

"It was a great opportunity to bring the top young swimmers from across the county together to train," said Paul Dowey.

"I have been very impressed with the standard shown by all our skills quad members this year.

"I'm very grateful for the support shown by Penny Willars and Sarah Hicks from the Tenby Dolphins in managing the swimmers throughout the weekend."

The skills camps are designed for youngsters who already swim competitively with their local clubs - Haverfordwest Seals, Milford Haven Tigers, Pembroke and District, Tenby Dolphins and Fishguard Flyers.

They are selected for the skills squad based on their 200m individual medley event results.

Selection for the summer series of skills camps will be made after the West Wales Championships in February.

Anyone interested in joining a competitive swimming club should contact their local leisure centre.
