The winter open exhibition that is currently on at Oriel Q Gallery, Narberth, has 100-plus exhibits on show.
Opened on Saturday with mulled wine and delicious food provided by the Friends of the gallery, we were also treated to a splendid visual display of talented work. Prints, drawings, paintings in every media, sculptures and ceramics with prices from £45 to £1,200, traditional and contemporary, literally something to suit everyone and available to buy on an interest free scheme or just to enjoy and admire the talent.
From nine-inch square to four-foot square, the mixture of work on view is impressive, and a few pieces were snapped up as soon as the exhibition opened. If you’re looking for a gift or want to add to your collection and enhance your interiors come and see what’s on offer.
In Oriel Fach 2, the small gallery next to the main one on the top floor of the Queen’s Hall is an exhibition by Anne Cakebread entitled ‘Timeless…Bythol’ illustrating the timeless nature of the Pembrokeshire landscape .
Since moving to Pembrokeshire from Cardiff in 2010, illustrator and painter Anne Cakebread has been exploring the written and physical history of North Pembrokeshire and Cardigan Bay. Her work records local places and reflects the shared and varied experiences that different generations have had here.
This exhibition is part of a series of limited edition prints created by drawing directly into the computer and then printed on award winning German etching paper using the Fine Art printer at Kadinsky Art in Narbeth. Each piece of work has an associated written piece taken from historical documents about the area, including extracts from a 15th Century letter to the Monks in St. Dogmaels abbey and 19th century newspaper reports about fights between rival local fishermen.
“Each article and drawing evokes the ‘timeless’ nature of each location, places that unlike the environment in cities or towns have changed little over the centuries.”
Anne has worked as a professional illustrator for over 26 years, producing artwork from Confused.com TV adverts to the Nigerian 1998 football team’s World Cup tactics.
Also on show is a collection of small canvases that have been donated by artists for the annual raffle. For just £2 per ticket, you can be the lucky one to win an original which will be drawn on Saturday, December 23, at 2 pm.
We hope that you will make time to visit this lovely gallery and enjoy the excellent variety of work on show.
Open Wednesdays to Saturdays 10 am - 5 pm. Please see the website www.orielqnarberth.com or ring (01834) 869454 for information.
