Pembrokeshire's cricketers are already in action, despite the cold weather, as the Nick Evans the Cricket Shop Pembrokeshire Indoor Cricket League has kickstarted the new season.

Whitland B were in action at the weekend, with two other local sides, St Florence and Pembroke Dock, playing on Sunday, January 18, along with Fishguard.

In the first match, Whitland B scored 125 for 2 against Burton. Kevin Pearce with 29 and Matthew Davies with 27 were the main contributors to the total before they both retired under competition rules.

There were other useful knocks from Shane Morgan (12) and skipper Mark Lee (14), while Nathan Evans (16 not out) and Matthew Webb (10 not out) made an impression on their Indoor League debuts.

Burton were held to 69 for 5 in reply, to give Whitland victory by 56 runs, despite the efforts of James Venables with 26 not out and Mark Griffiths with a fighting knock of 19.

In the next game, Whitland B were up against a strong Haverfordwest A team.

Haverfordwest reached a total of 116 for 5. Nigel Delaney led the way with 39 not out, backed up by David Davies and Danny Potter, who both topped the 20 mark.

Whitland B made a determined effort to keep up with the run rate. Matthew Davies had an exciting innings of 51 not out, supported by Shane Morgan (23) and Nathan Evans (16 not out), but the innings closed on 112 for 4, just five runs short of the winning target.
