RUMNEY 39 pts
WHITLAND 13
Whitland again failed to find the magic touch on Saturday, slumping to their eighth defeat in eight National League division one outings.
The Borderers started brightly enough against Rumney at Riverside Park, but lost the initiative when their discipline cracked following some dubious refereeing decision against them, allowing the homesters to capitalise and run out victors by 36 points to 13.
Rumney opened an early lead through a Matthew Silva penalty, but excellent work up front from Steve Gerrard, Mike Buckingham and Phil Morgan created an opening for Daniel Griffiths to snatch the lead for the Green and Whites with a try.
The Borderers stand-off converted his own touchdown and then slotted over a penalty to put Whitland in the driving seat.
Silva reduced the deficit with another penalty, before two quick unconverted tries just before the interval, from Phil Langley and Neil Coles, swung the advantage back in the homesters' favour.
Silva increased the lead with another penalty just before the break and then dented Whitland's optimism further just after the turn around with a neat drop goal.
Another penalty from Griffiths reduced the arrears, but then Whitland suffered a blow in the sin-binning of Sengili Tuihalamaka.
Rumney capitalised on the centre's absence in midfield, with prop Greg Harrington grabbing an unconverted try.
The homesters then put the game beyond any doubt with two further tries in time added on, the first from centre Nick Stock, converted by Silva, and the second from prop Neil Hennessey.
Whitland fielded: Wayne Lewis, Craig Richards, Dominic Setaro, Sengili Tuilahamaka, Matiake Mafi, Daniel Griffiths, Andrew Jenkins, Romeo Colella, Steve Gerrard, Ricky Davies, Dai Ebsworth, Fakataha Molitika, Mike Buckingham, Phil Morgan, Randall Williams.
