The Mayor of Whitland has praised a ‘fantastic week’ for the town which culminated in the popular carnival on Saturday.

“Wow! What a fantastic week for this Whitland Week 2019,” said Mayor, Clr. Barry Chapman.

“I had the pleasure of being invited to events throughout the week and with the help of Deputy Mayor, Clr. Richard Davies attended as many as we could. 

“The Carnival Committee deserve a huge vote of thanks on behalf of the people of Whitland for organising such a brilliant week.

“The week started off with an excellent steak night and then presentation of his Chains to this year’s President Mr. Nigel Owens,” said Clr. Chapman.

Whitland week had something for everyone - children’s sports, cake decorating, disco, tea party, coffee morning, afternoon tea, Italian evening, curry night, pizza night, burgers, a golf tournament, wheelbarrow push and the return of ‘It’s a knockout’ with the local YFC and even a dog show for man’s best friend. 

“The climax of the week was seeing Saturday’s Carnival floats and walkers all getting into the spirit of the day,” he continued.

“I was joined on the day by Mayoress of Kidwelly Crisial Davies, her consort Simon Ratty and Elizabeth Rogers who had the difficult task of judging for the day.

“Also joining me for the Carnival was the Mayoral Cadet Evie Sutcliffe. 

“It was a great pleasure to be a part if this year’s festivities and my personal thanks go to the Chairman of Whitland Week Committee and his helpers who once again delivered  a bumper filled week,  raising funds to keep Parc Dr Owen open, maintained and available for all ages to use.

“Thank you to all who organised, attended or helped in anyway.
