Whitland is officially unveiling its new ‘community shed’ this summer - with the facility welcoming both men and women.

The Shed is located in Parc Dr Owen, at the former Whitland AFC changing rooms, with the ‘grand opening’ to take place on Saturday, August 23, at 2pm.

Whitland’s Mayor will be on hand to officially mark the facility open.

Make a date in your diary, as on the day, as well as the opening ceremony to mark the occasion, there will be tea and coffee available; membership opportunites for people to discover; a chance to learn about how funds have been spent across the project; and an opportunity to explore future plans for the facility.

A community Shed is where people come together to make friends and help others within the locality.

Unlike most ‘Men Sheds’ around the UK, this Community Shed for the Whitland area will welcome ladies too.

Andy Smith has been praised for being the driving force behind the Community Shed progressing for the town.

Offering a friendly welcoming space for everyone, meet day at the facility is on a Tuesday, between 10 am and 12 noon.

Whatever your background or abilities, membership is free, and open to all. The Community Shed is an ideal place to make sure you keep active and meet people - and perhaps use skills you didn’t even realise you had.

Debs Rutter, Secretary of the Whitland Community Shed, said that it has been a delight to see many get behind the project.

“We organised a Crowdfunder which raised £1,002. The Community has been overwhelmingly generous,” she said.

“Everyone is welcome to come along to connect with your community, share ideas, and be part of something great,” added Debs.
