As is traditional, every player was presented with a medal to mark his or her participation throughout the season. Individual trophies were presented to Aled Davies for player of the season, James Thomas for players player and Joshua Davies for most improved player. It had been a wonderful season, with new players joining after their sixth birthday playing alongside their more experienced seven and eight-year-old teammates. Every player who turned up had a chance to play. Matches were played across the locality with a passion and enthusiasm that on a good day could rival many international games, and on a not so good day could be dissected and put right over sausage and chips shared with opposing teams back at local rugby clubs. Rugby at this age focuses on providing youngsters with a safe introduction to the game while at the same time meeting new friends, learning new skills and having fun. It also proves to be equally enjoyable for the parents who come along to enthusiastically cheer at the sidelines. These experiences range from braving the chilly winds of Crymych or enjoying the comforts of the stands at Stradey Park as the entire Whitland Under 8s played during half-time in the match between the Scarlets and Glasgow. Next season will see the older boys from the Under 8s leaving their tags behind and playing in the Under 9s. If you have a son or daughter currently in Year 3 in primary school who might be interested in joining in the fun next season, then please contact Edward Howells on 01994 240914 for more information.
