In one of the first distancing engagements of the year for the chairman of Carmarthenshire County Council, a tree was planted at Parc Dr Owen, Whitland recently.

Supplied by Whitland Town?Council, Clr. Ieuan Davies planted a sweet chestnut tree, the first of nine which are to be introduced to enhance the woodland area of the Parc. He spoke to the committee about the importance of planting trees for the children to enjoy.

The Parc has been cared for by the committees for over 50 years. Whitland Week, which is a series of events to raise funds for the Parc, was postponed until it is more safe to meet together and the tree planting goes some way to remembering 2020.

Also in attendance were Mr. Roy Thomas, president of Whitland Week, Clr. Barry Chapman, Mayor of Whitland, Mr. Robert Benjamin, chair of the Parc trustees, County Clr. Sue Allen, Mr. Roger Penn, committee member, Mr. Robert Kersey, chairman of the Whitland Week committee, Mr. John Seeley, vice-chairman of the Whitland Week committee.

The weather was splendid and the group were able to enjoy afternoon tea outside the Whitland Bowling Club, kindly prepared by Mrs. Cally Jones and her team of helpers.
