Whitland travelled to the Old Parish on Saturday to face Maesteg and came off second best by 18 points to eight.

The homeside dominated the set piece with a strong performance from the tight five, but saying that were left to get away with alot of off-the-ball incidents.

Maesteg took an early lead with a penalty from outside-half Robert Evans after four minutes, but young outside-half Jonathan Thomas levelled the score with a penalty for The Borderers after eight minutes after a break by centre Lee Glanville with support from No. 8 John Bowen.

Twelve minutes into the game, flanker Jack Mason was harshly yellow carded by referee Mike Bethel for not releasing the ball, but having turned a Maesteg player with Ryan Michael, this seemed like a wrong call.

Maesteg scored the only try of the half when flanker Andrew Healy touched down after 28 minutes, Evans missing the conversion, in what proved to be the final scoring act of the half, leaving Whitland trailing by eight points to three at the break.

Maesteg, with the wind in the second half, increased their lead with another Robert Evans penalty after nine minutes, with Thomas missing one for Whitland.

After 12 minutes, Maesteg scored their second try through fullback Gareth Goodridge which Evans converted to increase their lead to 18 points.

Whitland, having replaced both their props through injury, saw replacement Romeo Collella red carded for an alleged illegal use of the head in a shuffle. Then Whitland's scrum-half Gary Davies took a quick free-kick and went down the blindside, chipping the winger to regather the ball and score the try which went unconverted after 32 minutes.

With Whitland centres, Gary Evans and Lee Glanville, coming more into the game, it looked that they would get a losing point at least.

On full-time, flanker Ryan Michael scored a try initially given by the referee, but with the Whitland boys walking back, he then changed his mind and blew up for full-time to leave everyone from Whitland bemused.

Whitland squad: Will Davies (Christiaan Roets), Aled Jones, Lee Glanville, Gary Evans, Dion Thomas, Jonathan Thomas, Gary Davies, Craig Kelly (Romeo Collella), Gavin Walsh, Alan Proctor (Richard Smith), Raff Williams (Carl Smith), Randall Williams (capt.), Jack Mason (Celt Thomas), Ryan Michael, John Bowen.
