Whitland Under 7s 2 Crymych 8

On a wet and muddy ground, these conditions did not suit a young Whitland team. Despite the score, Whitland tried their best and were rewarded with tries by Tom Williams and Owain Gibbon - scoring his first try for Whitland.

Man-of-the-match was Owain Evans.

Whitland Under 8s 3 Crymych 5

In wet and heavy conditions, it was Crymych who came out on top, with the score four to one at half-time.

Whitland picked up their game in the second half and played good rugby, and despite injuries to two key players, they battled to the end, going down by five tries to three.

Whitland tries were scored by Josh Davies (2) and Iwan Morgans.

Man-of-the-match was Steven Pilot.

Whitland Under 9s 9 St. Clears 1

This was a last minute fixture for Whitland against close neighbours St. Clears.

Whitland dominated the match early on, and an excellent run up the wing by Keiran Smith saw a good pass to Sebastian Howells, who scored their first try.

Sebastian again had a sprint up the wing to score his second try in the first half.

All the Whitland boys were playing well as a team, and the third try was scored by Che Thomas after yet another long run to the try line.

Just before half-time, William Emmanuel ploughed his way through the St. Clears team; they failed to pull him down and he drove over to score the fourth try.

The second half was played with the same determination as the first, William Emmanuel again hauling himself over the try line for a fifth try.

There was some excellent tackling coming from both teams.

Lewis Driscoll then had the ball and made a run for the try line. St. Clears were catching him, so he gave an excellent pass to Sebastian, who scored his third try of the match.

William was showing no fear and was on a roll; he went on to score another two tries, with the last try of the match coming again from Sebastian.

Man-of-the-match was Lewis Driscoll.

The only try scored by St. Clears came from Emyr Waters.

MIXED FRIENDLY

Both teams then had a friendly mixed team match and the score was Blacks 4 Greens 7. Man-of-the-match in this game was Blue Parsley.

Whitland under 9s 2 Crymych 5

Whitland Under 9s travelled to Crymych on a very blustery morning.

The boys had a good first half, with lots of good tackling and strong defending.

Whitland had the advantage of the downhill slope in the first half, but this did not help them to score, with Crymych leading by one try to nil.

The second half was going to be harder, now playing uphill and on a heavy pitch.

All the boys played well as a team and the first try came from Che Thomas, who had an excellent run up the wing.

Whitland's second again came from Che Thomas after some good passing from his team-mates.

After a short sharp shower of rain, the referee blew up for full-time, with the score being 5-2 to Crymych.

Man-of-the-match went to Che Thomas.

Whitland Under 10s 1 Crymych 4

This was a hard match, with the score being one-all at half-time, Whitland's try coming from Jack Richards, who was well supported by the forwards.

Crymych dominated the second half, with strong forwards and some hard running by their backs.

Man-of-the-match was awarded to Lewis Jones, although Gino Setaro also put in an outstanding display.

Whitland Under 11s 0 Crymych 4

The weather was up to its normal tricks for this clash... wet, windy and wet. The score does not do justice to Whitland, who had three tries disallowed, but this takes nothing away from Crymych, who produced some good play and had a couple of good breaks which resulted in tries. The referee needs to be congratulated on this approach, as he explained to both sides why he made the decisions he made.

Carmarthen Under 12s 12

This was an exciting game of rugby that was enjoyed by both sets of supporters and was a credit to all players on the field.

From the kick-off, the Quins showed that they meant business and ran the ball straight back at the home team. The Whitland forwards, who were well led by number eight Liam Mainwaring, had to tackle like trojans to stop the Quins' assault.

The Quins' first try came from a scrum in their own half and, following some good handling, the ball reached centre James Brian, who evaded the Whitland defence and scored under the posts. James duly converted his own try to give the Quins a 7-0 lead.

Whitland came to life and after some hard work by the back row of Dewi Davies, Rhys Thomas and Liam Mainwaring, they started to move the ball, with scrum-half Arwel Thomas and outside-half Steffan James organising the back line.

With the home forwards driving at the Quins' line, it was prop Luke Peters who emerged from the bottom of the pile with the ball in his hand to score Whitland's first try just on the half-time whistle.

Conor Bowen hit the posts with the conversion.

Coach John Davies made some changes at half-time and the home side started much better. However, the Quins showed their determination with a number of counter-attacks, only to be foiled by their own forwards committing fouls at the rucks and mauls.

After a ruck 20 metres out, hooker Sion Beynon won a vital ball and fed prop Ceri Thomas who, with the help of his forwards, made ground and from the ensuing maul, the ball was quickly released and passed through the hands of Steffan James, Gwion Jones and Ritchie Waters for centre Conor Bowen to score wide out.

This gave Whitland a narrow lead of 10-7, but the Quins were not going to give up that easy and with only minutes left, the ball was won and moved out quickly for centre James Brian to score his second try and give the lead back to the Quins 12-10.

With the clock ticking, Whitland prop Gethin Benjamin charged for the line, only to be brought down short and from the ruck the Quins were deemed to have knocked-on and Whitland had a scrum five metres out under the posts.

The ball was won, but in their excitement, the Quins backs were penalised for offside. Penalty to Whitland, who opted to go for a winning try. Ball lost - Quins kicked to touch - final whistle. Victory to the Quins.
