At Whitland Bowling Club's annual general meeting held on Thursday, November 13, chairman Mr. Peter Wills gave an encouraging resumé of the progress made during the past season on all fronts - playing, social and financial.

He congratulated all three club teams on their achievements during the season - both the men's first team and the ladies' team finished runners-up in their respective leagues, while the Borderers excelled themselves by winning the Brains Cup.

The captains of the various teams showed excellent leadership qualities and infectious enthusiasm. Well done Alan Whitehouse, Sue Evans and David Lewis!

A number of players are to be congratulated on their individual achievements at county level. Young Hannah Thomas once again brought honour to the club by representing the Welsh Under 25 years ladies' team; Dan Jenner received an invitation to play in an Under 25 years Welsh trial; also Dan and Ryan Thomas reached the final of the Welsh Under 25 years double rinks.

Treasurer John Addison, in his encouraging report, gave special praise to the ladies' section for their excellent Sunday lunches that are becoming increasingly popular, both locally and further afield. Kathy and David Jenner and their band of dedicated helpers made a marked contribution to club funds, as well as producing superb dinners.

Mention was also made of the improvement of the green, now one of the best in Pembrokeshire, due to the hard work of Steven Reese and Alan Whitehouse.

The annual club tour, this year to Minehead, proved to be an outstanding success, as did the winter tour to Torquay.

A new function during the season was the pig race evening, organised by Mr. Robert Newsome, which was a financial and social success, attended by a large number of members and friends.

The following officers were elected to serve for the 2009 season: president - John Hammond; vice-president - Denny Richards; chairman - Peter Wills; vice-chairman - Colin Wynn; secretary - Susan Evans; treasurer - John Addison; 1st team captain - Huw Nicholas; vice-captain - Glyndwr Thomas; Borderers captain - Ashley Reese; vice-captain - David Jenner; club captain - John Hammond; ladies' captain - Hannah Thomas; vice-captain - Cally Jones; fixture secretary - Nigel Davies; county delegates - Peter Wills, Colin Wynn.
