WHITLAND BC 86 PENDINE 69
Whitland continued their excellent run of form with a hard fought victory over a tenacious Pendine side played at Pendine last Saturday. The winning margin of 19 shots is not a true reflection of the game. Indeed, Whitland's victory was not certain until the penultimate ends were played. Steve Reese and his rink of Mal Bishop, John Seeley and the reliable Nigel Davies had a keen encounter with the experienced Dai King-Thomas and his rink. It was the 18th end when Whitland, despite dropping a six count, took the lead to finally run out winners by five shots (23-18). Captain Alan Whitehouse's rink of Shane Webster, Ryan Thomas and dad Tim 'Tights' Thomas also gained a five-shot success over Malcolm Thomas's rink. The inimitable 'Tights' was in excellent form as was his victory 'catwalk wiggle' celebration! Colin 'I'm on fire' Wynn and his rink of son Phillip, John Rees and young Liam Price were in command for most of their game against the competitive Mal Evans and his boys. Phillip had a particularly fine game - one drive delivered with such accuracy and force shot the jack six feet up in the air, much to the amazement of all players. They deserved their four-shot win. The reliable Glyndwr Thomas marshalled his rink of Matthew Court, Denny Richards and the excitable Dan Jenner to a good win by 22 shots to 19 over Stuart King Thomas and his rink. Dan had an excellent game at third, his front end gave him a solid platform and, of course, Glyn came in with some first class deliveries, especially if he was a shot or two down. Scores (Whitland first, Pendine skips only): Matthew Court, Denny Richards, Dan Jenner, Glyndwr Thomas 22; Stuart King-Thomas 19. Liam Price, John Rees, Phillip Wynn, Colin Wynn 19; Mal Evans 14. Shane Webster, Ryan Thomas, Tim Thomas, Alan Whitehouse 23; M. Thomas 18. Nigel Davies, John Seeley, Mal Bishop, Steven Reese 25; David King-Thomas 18.
WHITLAND BORDERERS 98 PATER 65
Whitland Borderers were in fine form in their Brains Cup match against Pater, winning comfortably on all four rinks and are to be congratulated on reaching the final. Within this excellent team effort were many pleasing individual performances from both the youngsters and senior members which will undoubtedly keep the first team members on their toes. Skip Selwyn Price continues to set a fine example to his rinks and certainly brings the best out of lead Emyr James, who had a memorable game. He was also well-supported by son Louis and the improving youngster Chris Court. Their 25 shots to 11 win was well-deserved. Selwyn's bowling expertise now matches his culinary skills (washing up!). Micky (the quiz) Williams, well-supported by young Liam Price and veterans Wynford Evans and Doug Morgan, had a comfortable win over J. Turley and his rink, 22-17. All made significant contributions with some first class deliveries. Captain David Lewis's rink of Brian Griffiths, Matthew Stephens and James Jenner ran out 29-17 winners over S. Davies. David sets a fine example to his team; his enthusiasm is infectious. Finally, international umpire Peter 'the beard' Williams, together with John Addison, John Hammond and the ever-improving Ashley Reese won a close encounter by two shots (22-20) over M. Ronald. The Whitland rink started off very well, but were pegged back to within two shots - much like Peter's 'vintage mode of two-wheeled transport'. Results (Whitland Borderers first, Pater skips only): John Addison, John Hammond, Ashley Reese, Peter Williams 22; M. Ronald 20. Brian Griffiths, Matthew Stephens, James Jenner, David Lewis 29; S. Daws 17. Doug Morgan, Wynford Evans, Liam Price, Mickey Williams 22; J. Turley 17. Emyr James, Chris Court, Louis Price, Selwyn Price 25; Bob 11.
