WHITLAND LADIES 31

SAUNDERSFOOT 44

Last Friday evening the ladies travelled to sunny Saundersfoot. On rink one, Josie's rink of Susan, Bronwen and Jo had a nightmare of a start going down 14 shots by the sixth end. They then picked up six on the next two ends, but at tea were still 19-7 down. Unfortunately, the experience of the Saundersfoot rink proved too strong for the Whitland girls and they finished the game 17 shots adrift.

On the next rink, Shirley, Sandra, Cally and Andrea got off to a dream start, picking up a five on the first end, but their opponents weren't going to be outdone, and picked up a five on the third end. After that, the Whitland girls went on to score on the next six ends, stopping for tea 11-7 up. Once the game had re-started and determined not to let the 'tea' have an effect, Andrea's girls furthered their lead to 15 shots to seven. The game was very close and the Whitland rink pulled out all the stops to ensure they took home a valuable two points.

Rink scores (Whitland first, Saundersfoot skips only):

Susan Evans, Bronwen Llewellyn, Jo Shewry, Josie Wills 12; Marion Evans 29.

Shirley Hammond, Sandra Fiddy, Cally Jones, Andrea Thomas 19; M Cummings 15.

BORDERERS 72 (4)

ST. BRIDES 74 (10)

On Saturday, the Borderers played St. Brides, and what a game it was, with only two shots separating the two sides at the end.

On rink two, Trevor Williams's foursome were one down at tea, then stepped up a gear and finished six shots up over Les Davies.

Rink three saw Brian Griffiths's crew up by six on the 10th end, only to see their lead slip away, eventually going down by four to M. Brewer.

Jim Morrison and Co. held on to their half-time lead to finish four shots up on S. Harries.

It was a much tougher task for Philip Wynn's quartet. They were 11 shots down on the 10th end, but were determined not to let the visitors run away with the lead and managed to only go down by eight shots.

Many thanks to Katie, Bronwen and Sarah who stepped in at last minute to help with the tea.

Rink scores (Borderers first, St. Brides skips only):

Selwyn Price, Ryan Thomas, John Hammond, Trevor Williams 20; L. Davies 14.

D. Morgan Liam Price, Denny Richards, Brian Griffiths 20; M. Brewer.

John Llewellyn, Louis Price, Steve Aston, Jimmy Morrison 21; S. Harries 17.

Huw Nicholas, James Jenner, David Jenner, Philip Wynn 11; J. John 19.

AMMANFORD 159

WHITLAND 83

Whitland travelled east to Ammanford on Sunday for what was thought to be a friendly, but it seems the home side had a lot riding on the kitty, and weren't going to give an inch.

Four of our rinks went down, but there were two highlights for Whitland. The first was the young rink of Steve Aston, Ben Thomas, Jo Shewry and Marc Jones drawing level on the last end. They were doing well all through the game until their 'supporters' arrived, and a lapse in concentration saw them drop a crucial five on the 20th end.

Morlais's rink of Jonathan Seeley, Viv Kemson and Huw Davies also did very well, holding off a mini comeback from the homesters, to end young Jonathan's first game for Whitland with a win, 18-16 up.

Rink scores:

Louis Price, Kathy Jenner, Philip Wynn, Denny Richards 9; Ammanford 25.

Jonathan Seeley, Viv Kerrison, Huw Davies, Morlais Powell 8; Ammanford 16.

John Hammond, James Jenner, Sandra Fiddy, Cally Jones 6; Ammanford 29.

L. Evans, B. Kerrison, Daniel Jenner, Trevor Williams 18; Ammanford 28.

Shirley Hammond, Liam Price, Selwyn Price, Mickey Williams 11; Ammanford 37.

Steve Aston, Ben Thomas, Jo Shewry, Marc Jones 24; Ammanford 24.

MOVE OVER

AINSLEY HARRIET!

On returning from a long day in Milford playing in the Margaret Bryant rinks, a couple of ladies walked into the Whitland clubhouse to be greeted by two new male faces in the kitchen.

As the gents stood looking rather bemused as to why things weren't sizzling away, the two ladies stepped in and offered to rescue the sausage and chips.

You see boys, the oil has to be heated up before it will start cooking. But I'm told you were awarded 10 out of 10 for effort!

A few more like you is what we need, at least you were willing to have a go.

DIARY DATES

Whitland first team and ladies teams are in action this weekend. Tomorrow (Saturday) they travel to Milford Haven and on Sunday they host Neyland. Both games start at 2.30 pm. Why not come along to the clubhouse and give them a bit of support on Sunday.
