WHITLAND 80 (11 pts) NEYLAND 72 (3 )

Whitland's game against Neyland was a dour struggle throughout with few shots separating the teams. Whitland came within a whisker of taking maximum points.

On the final ends of their respective rinks Chris Court lost out by one shot on a close measure; Peter Wills drew, with the home bowl an inch away from the holding opposition bowl.

Captain Glyndwr Thomas, with his final bowl, turned five shots down into one shot down, thus winning his game by one shot over D. Sutton. He was well supported throughout by Malcolm Holding, Mathew James and Simon Tucker, the eventual score being 16-15.

Chris Court's rink of David Davies, who has made a fine return to bowls, Aeron Thomas, and Mike Williams had a titanic struggle against G. Robson and were unlucky to lose by one shot, 20-21.

Peter Wills's rink of Nigel Davies at lead, who played his best game of the season to date, Mel Tucker and laid back Des Jefferies had a close encounter with Reg Evans. Honours even was a fair result, 17-17.

Steve Reese's rink of Jim Morrison, now fully recovered from a virus infection, Denny Richards and Dicky Court always had the edge against B. Barrett. A five count on the final end sealed the overall win for the home team, 27-19.

Congratulations to Steve and Chris who have, once again, been selected to represent the county, and Peter Wills and Des Jefferies who have been selected for the county veterans team.

The game was very kindly sponsored by Clive Edwards and Son, Taf Valley Coaches. Clive is fine benefactor of all Whitland sports groups.

WHITLAND 76 (4 pts)

TENBY 96 (10)

Despite sharing the rink wins, two each, Tenby's superior shot count, especially on one rink, secured them the other six points for the overall win.

All rinks were keenly contested, with some excellent bowls being played by both teams.

Captain Glyndwr Thomas and his rink of Malcolm Holding, Aeron Thomas and Simon Tucker once again set a fine example by winning by five shots, 23-18, against the experienced Pat Currie.

Steve Reese's rink of Mathew James, Denny Richards and Richard Court were also in fine form, winning by four shots, 26-22, against D.Morgan.

Peter Wills, Des Jefferies, Jim Morrison and Colin Wynn were always competitive against the strong Paul Diment quartet, but a dropped five late in the game proved to be their undoing, losing by eight shots, 16-24. Colin Wynn had a good game at lead, an unfamiliar position for 'Mr. Awesome'.

Chris Court, David Davies, Mel Tucker and Mike Williams found Simon Evans, D. King Thomas, Bert Barnikel and Peter Day in scintillating form and were always up against it finally losing by 11 shots to 32.

However, the result was an improvement on the away fixture at Tenby where Whitland drew a blank.

WHITLAND LADIES 38 FISHGUARD LADIES 40

Two shots separated these teams in this keenly fought match, with each team winning one rink.

Whitland's Susan Evans, captain Josie Wills, Andrea Thomas and Dianne Scourfield were in excellent form and deserved their 10-shot win, 21-11, against G. McFarlane's rink.

However, Wendy Court, Hannah Thomas, Cally Jones and Elizabeth Pratt found the A. Gray quartet on top of their game and lost by 12 shots, 17-29. The Whitland rink played some commendable bowls, but found the opposition a little too good on this occasion.

WHITLAND LADIES 35 TENBY LADIES 51

The experienced Tenby team played some entertaining bowls against Whitland and deserved their 16-shot win.

The Whitland ladies are always competitive, indeed! Wendy Court, Jo Shewry, Cally Jones and Elizabeth Pratt were a little unfortunate to lose by two shots, 21-23, against the J. Dorling rink. A count of four on the last end showed their determination.

Josie Wills, Kathy Jenner, Andrea Thomas and Dianne Scourfield found the excellent Mair Marquiss and her ladies at their very best and had to fight hard to keep the score to a reasonable 14-shot margin.

Despite these two reverses, the ladies are having a good season, with new bowlers making a marked contribution to results.
