FELINFOEL 5 pts. WHITLAND 20

Whitland got back to winning ways in Swalec Division One West last Saturday, recording their first win since early December and completing the double over Felinfoel.

It was a better all round team performance, with the likes of Marc Jones, Carwyn Davies, Jack Mason, Dylan Richards and man-of-the-match Ryan Michael strong up front, while behind, Carwyn Jones controlled things from number 10, there was some hard tackling from centre Gary Evans and wingers Dion Thomas and Will Davies always looked dangerous.

Whitland took the lead after six minutes when fullback James Stephenson kicked a penalty and he doubled their advantage with his second some five mintues later.

The Borderers should have scored a try when second row Raff Williams made a clean break from the halfway line, but he ran out of steam and unfortunately the final pass didn't go to hand.

Felinfoel threw everything at Whitland for the remainder of the half and did cross their line right on the stroke of half-time when winger Daniel Gravelle touched down for an unconverted try to leave the score at the break six points to five in Whitland's favour.

Playing with the slope in the second half, Whitland kept the home side pinned in their own half for much of the 40 minutes. The pressure they exerted was always building and when winger Dion Thomas intercepted and ran in under the posts, the game was virtually over, with Stephenson adding the conversion.

Man-of-the-match Ryan Michael rounded things off when he scored the Borderers' second try, again under the sticks, to give James Stephen the easiest of conversion and leave the final score 20 points to 5 to Whitland.

Team fielded: James Stephenson, Dion Thomas, Gary Evans (Aled Jones), Lee Glanville (capt.), Will Davies, Carwyn Jones, Huw Rees, Gareth Lloyd, Marc Jones (Trystan Griffiths), Alan Proctor (Andrew Howells), Raff Williams (Randall Williams), Carwyn Davies, Jack Mason, Ryan Michael, Dylan Richards. Whitland 2nds 21 pts. Waunarlwydd 2nds 7

Whitland 2nd XV kept up the pressure on Carmarthen Tyre Services League leaders Llandovery with a 21 points to seven win over visitors Waunarlwydd last Saturday.

Centre Wayne Morris kicked an early penalty, before winger Gareth Morris scored a try, which Morris converted, to give Whitland a 10-point lead.

Replying, second row Ed Bennett scored the visitors' only try of the game and centre Mike Reid converted to give a half-time score of 10 points to seven to the home side.

In the second half, Wayne Morris added two further penalties and flanker Rhydian Davies got an unconverted try to give Whitland a 21 points to seven winning margin.

Whitland Youth 50 pts. Fishguard Youth nil

Whitland ran out winners by 50 points to nil in this Scarlets Division D clash, but this does not reflect how hard the game was and Fishguard never threw in the towel.

Whitland led by 19 points at the break and it was late on in the second half that they reached the 50-point mark.

Centre Lewis Thomas and winger Aled Rees got two tries each, while centre Johnny Thomas, winger Mike Webb, second row Thomas Hughes and replacement centre James Davies got the others. Outside-half Nico Setaro converted one and fullback Scott Newton converted four.
