After two recent defeats, Whitland bounced back to winning ways with a controlled 24 points to 10 victory away at Bonymaen on Saturday.

Bonymaen opened the scoring after four minutes with a penalty from outside-half Anthony Evans, this resulted from a lack of discipline from the kick-off when two Whitland forwards were in front of the kicker.

From the resulting scrum on half-way, Bonymaen used the ball, and were brought to ground on the 25 metre line. They were awarded the scrum, with Whitland being penalised for pulling it down. After nine minutes Whitland's outside-half, Scott Penny, opened their account with a well-taken penalty, after Bonymaen had been penalised for diving in at the ruck situation.

Whitland's first try came 29 minutes into the game after some good work by the backs. Bonymaen were penalised on their 10-metre line for being up too fast with Whitland taking the option to kick for the corner, from the resulting line-out.

Front jumper, Ben Armstrong took good line-out ball setting up the driving maul, only for Bonymaen to be penalised for pulling it down. Again, Penny kicked to the corner and this time Molitika took the middle ball setting up the driving maul, the ball smuggled back to hooker Jason Evans to crash over for the opening try. Penny added the two points.

Six minutes later, Whitland increased their lead with a try by flanker Stuart Tirie, which resulted in Koloi picking up at number 8 and driving into the mid field, slipping the ball to centre Mike Buckingham, who drove for the line, slipping the ball to the ever-present Tirie to crash over. Again Penny added the extra two points with a successful conversion to leave the half-time score 17-3 to Whitland.

In the 10th minute of the second half, Scott Penny was unlucky not to increase Whitland's lead when he shaved the upright with a penalty. Bonymaen dropped out, Whitland gathered the ball at the 10-metre line, the forwards driving on quick hands by scrum-half Andrew Jenkins, to bring number 8 Koloi in at the angle which split Bonymaen's defence, again releasing centre Buckingham to charge over for Whitland's third try. Again Penny adding a further two points to extend Whitland's lead to 24- 3.

Bonymaen struck back four minutes later with a converted try by outside-half Anthony Evans, the game then seemed to fizzle out and Whitland ran out comfortable winners by 24-10.

Whitland fielded: Gavin Morris, Lee Glanville, Steve Griffiths, Mike Buckingham, (Dominic Setaro), Andrew Richards, Scott Penny (Aled Davies), Andrew Jenkins (Gareth Davies), Romeo Colella (Dai Jones), Jason Evans (Steve Gerrard), Ricky Davies (Lee Tucker), Ben Armstrong, Fakatah Molitika, Stuart Tirie, Phil Morgan (capt.), Johnny Koloi.

Again this weekend Whitland are on the road, when they travel away tomorrow (Saturday) to play Brynmawr. A Supporters bus will leave the club at 12 noon.

In the second half, the older side of Newcastle Emlyn proved too strong for Whitland's youngsters as they crossed for four tries through R. Davies, C. Holder and M. Hamilton, who scored two. Iestyn Crompton added two conversions. Whitland replied with a try by full-back Shane Morgan and also a penalty try which was converted by Ali Bowen.
