Tenby Surf Lifesaving Club has recently received a late-summer funding boost of £2,000 from White Stuff’s Community Chest initiative.
A member of staff at the Tenby shop applied for the funding through White Stuff’s small grants scheme, which allows each branch’s team members to submit bids on behalf of projects that they care about. And out of 44 applicants, Tenby Surf Lifesaving Club - or The Sharks as they are locally known - were one of the six organisations ultimately chosen as recipients of the initiative’s funding pot.
Tenby Surf Lifesaving Club leader Emmet Johnson was delighted with the news, saying: “We’re over the moon with this. Both the kids and coaches at the club will all benefit greatly from the new kit that we can use during our beach sessions. White Stuff have been brilliant as a local partner in helping us out since they moved into the town.”
The £2,000 grant has enabled the club to purchase top-of-the-range surf lifesaving equipment - specifically, two new rescue boards and eight nipper boards - to support their continued work in educating young swimmers in surf safety and open water skills, and providing training for them to progress towards becoming qualified lifeguards and first aiders.
