Concern has been raised by a local councillor that development work on a prominent building in Tenby appears to have ceased.
Clr. Mrs. Trisha Putwain raised the subject of the Guildhall and Glendower House development on the Norton and Croft at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council.
"What's happening with the Guildhall site, work seems to have stopped recently, and it's a bit of a concern, with the building lying empty and windows open," she told her fellow councillors.
Three years ago, an application was approved for the demolition of the existing link building, the erection of a new four-storey infill block matching the style of the two adjoining properties and providing six flats, the alteration of The Guildhall and Glendower House to create an additional 13 flats, and the creation of a parking area accessible from both The Croft and The Norton.
However, a new application submitted by the developers, seeking approval for an alternative scheme, which would create nine apartments within the Guildhall, a new link building providing 17 apartments, basement parking, and gardens for the whole site, was given the thumbs down by members of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's development management committee at a meeting back in September of last year.
Town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, told members that he had received correspondence from PCNPA's development management officer, Cathy Milner, on the matter.
"Mrs. Milner told me that all appears to be quiet on the site and closed up. She explained that the developers had talked about appealing against the decision to refuse their latest plans, but there had been no discussions about looking to a revised scheme," explained Mr. Davies.
"Mrs. Milner explained that the developers appear to be having trouble selling the units without being given the go-ahead for the infill block. She said that as soon as the authority's officers had any new information, they would pass it on to us," added Mr. Davies.
Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, suggested writing to the developers enquiring what the situation was and asked if the information could also be passed on to Sue Crockford who resides at the premises.
