Sir,

What on earth is Greenhill School playing at now?

Further to the stress and anxiety caused to many parents and students by the music hoo-ha, they have now decided to axe physics, chemistry and biology as independent subjects and replace them with 'Double Award Science!'

Having deliberated for hours with our son's Year 10 options, a few weeks ago, we are now sent a revised version, and given one week to decide our son's GCSE option choices.

However, without the inclusion of these three science subjects, one is very limited to a career choice.

With the country in desperate need of doctors, dentists etc., I find this absolutely unbelievable and totally unacceptable, and I wonder just who is actually responsible for making such a ridiculous decision.

I understand the problems with budgets, which I am sure is where the school will try and pin the blame, but surely there are far less important subjects which could be sacrificed, than chemistry, physics and biology - the required backbone for many university courses, and I am afraid that 'Double Award Science' will not be acceptable.

This is a very serious situation for all pupils starting Year 10, and indeed below, and I am sure I am not the only deeply concerned parent, as unfortunately time is not on our side.

Kevin Lloyd,
