Sir,

It was kind of Mr. Roscoe Howells (RH) to take an interest in my letter concerning Haile Selassie I ('HS'). Albeit I found his letter Delphic in part. It seems he does not strongly disagree that 'HS' did stay in Tenby. At Greenhill in the 1950s, my classmates and their parents were absolutely sure 'HS' stayed at the Atlantic Hotel, Esplanade. Whether he was there with an invitation in his pocket to stay on Caldey, I have no idea. 'RH' helpfully explains something of those times with local people engaging in intrigue and mendacity centered on 'HS.' It all sounds very exciting.

'RH' states 'HS' never visited Caldey. For an alternative opinion your readers may read 'Portrait of Pembrokeshire' (1984) written by the late Dillwyn Miles (DM), where he says 'During the last war... 'HS' found refuge on the island (Caldey) for a time.'

If 'RH' and 'DM', the two 'big beasts' of Pembrokeshire history, cannot agree on events 70 years ago - what hope for the rest of us?
