Further progress to improve road safety on the A477 at Milton in Pembrokeshire, has been secured following a formal response from the Welsh Government.

Responding to concerns raised by local residents and championed by Conservative candidate for Ceredigion Penfro Samuel Kurtz, the Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary has confirmed that a speed survey commissioned as a result of his campaign shows vehicles are exceeding acceptable thresholds.

The data indicates that 85th percentile speeds are more than 10 per cent above the posted limit, a key trigger for further action under Welsh Government guidance.

As a result, the Welsh Government has confirmed that the site now meets the criteria for a full assessment of potential engineering measures to improve driver compliance and enhance safety.

Welcoming the development, Mr Kurtz said: “This is a significant step forward for everyone who has raised concerns about speeding through Milton. The data clearly confirms what local residents have been saying for some time; that vehicles are travelling too fast and action is needed.“I've long called for action, and securing a speed survey was an important first step.

“I’m pleased that the Welsh Government has recognised the issue and will now assess what engineering solutions can be put in place to make the road safer for the community,” he added.

The survey findings have also been shared with GoSafe, which may consider additional enforcement measures in the area.

This latest progress builds on Kurtz’s recent success in securing safety improvements at the Nash Fingerpost and Red Roses junctions, demonstrating a continued focus on tackling long-standing road safety concerns across the area.

Mr Kurtz has been actively campaigning on this issue, raising concerns on behalf of residents and pressing for evidence-based action to address speeding and improve road safety along this key route.
