Sir, Can I be one of many to congratulate Scott Gammer on becoming British Heavyweight champion joining such illustrious people as Jack Petersen, Tommy Farr, Erskine Cooper etc. It was never a doubt he would win it when I heard he was going to fight Krence for the title. As one who has refereed Scott when he was 11 right up to the time he won the Welsh Heavy title, he was destined to be something special. He turned pro at exactly the right time. Far too many youngsters turning pro today are not ready and subsequently after a few bouts, realise it was a big jump to make. Scott through his tenacity and boxing skill has gone all the way. The European title beckons, but not just yet. Have a few more fights under your belt Scott and maybe next year the time will be right, be patient. It took one of the greatest fighters of all time Archie Moore 17 years and 187 fights before he had a crack at the world title and he was nearly 40 when he won it, so one step at a time Scott. Incidently, the last Welshman to win it was David Pearce back in September 1983 and he too won it in the ninth round, but he then retired. I hope we will see Scott at many of our shows next season, as along with Maccinelli they will be such an inspiration to our young boxers just starting and who will one day emulate these fine boxers.
