TV weatherman Derek Brockway will be in Pembrokeshire next week (January 27) challenging you to try something new at your local library.

Derek - together with television and radio presenter Sara Edwards - is visiting the Milford Haven library at Cedar Court on the Haven's Head Business Park on Thursday, as part of the Welsh Libraries Festival entitled 'Fancy That....'

During the 10-day event, which started yesterday (Thursday), lots of events for families are happening in libraries all across Wales, including Tenby and Pembroke Dock.

Derek said: "I've been set a challenge to try something new at different libraries across Wales. At Milford, I will be learning to knit with a group of local people - I can't wait!

"It just goes to show that libraries offer much more than books and cater for all types of hobbies and interests."

Pembrokeshire County Councillor Rob Lewis, cabinet member for cultural services said: "We are delighted to be part of the Welsh Libraries Festival. It's a wonderful opportunity to raise people's awareness of what libraries have to offer. There's something for everyone and all ages and interests are welcome."

Heritage Minister, Alun Ffred Jones, said: "Libraries are at the heart of the communities they serve, offering something for everyone. The festival is a great opportunity for the whole family to try something new and to bring libraries to the forefront of people's minds."

At Tenby library on Monday, between 7 and 9 pm, Rosie Swale Pope will be recalling her many travels. She will be talking about her five-year global journey across 20,000 miles, encountering wolves, frostbite, while wearing out 53 pairs of shoes.

As part of Tenby's globetrotting theme, on the same night, Pembrokeshire Libraries will be launching a new online language service. Byki - which stands for Before You Know It - will give library members the chance to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in 80 different languages.

Earlier in the day, playwright and author Dan Anthony will be hosting a writing session with local schoolchildren.

Tenby library will also host a baby yoga session at 11 am on Friday, January 28. It is being run by Carol Yates, a qualified nurse and yoga therapist, with years of experience in Britain and New Zealand.

She's based in Narberth and runs a number of classes for adults, children and babies. All you need to bring is your baby, a small cushion and a soft blanket.

Carol will be running her class in Pembroke Dock library on Thursday at 10.30 am.
