Sir,
I feel I must write to make fellow readers aware of the real chance that Pembrokeshire will have no A&E within three years. Now that the Health Minister has approved plans by the Hywel Dda Health Board to relocate all maternity/paediatric staff to Glangwili by end of August 2014, the A&E department will be downgraded to a 12-hour service running 8 am - 8 pm. This has already been announced by the board.
All of this can be read in the leaked five-year plan available on the SWAT website. In the plan is the Health Board's plan to downgrade Withybush to an A&E-less District Hospital within five years.
This cannot be allowed to happen. We had a march through Haverfordwest last Sunday and a trip to the Senedd is booked in March.
Please write to the Health Minister Mark Drakeford and let him know that we won't let this happen!
John Thomas,
Tenby.
