Sir,

May I through your Letters Page offer a hearty 'Well done!' to Mrs. M. Neate, of North Cliff, Tenby, for her comments on the ever-fuller programme of events that has been taking place on the harbour the last few years.

Many harbour residents, myself included, have lacked the courage to speak up because of fear of recriminations such as those voiced by Christine of Tenby (although, talking of courage, I note that Christine does not have enough of it to put her full name and address to her opinions).

We are not spoilsports, being fully aware that most of these events raise a great deal of money for charity (and I personally have always supported the main events financially), but we would like some consideration. Tenby harbour is both a working harbour and a residential area and I ask, for example, is it really necessary to have a marquee covering part of the car parking area in place all summer, when, apparently, it is only licensed for the actual days that the events take place?

I am glad that so many people enjoyed the showing of 'Jaws' on the harbour car park, however the volume was turned up so loud that not only could I not watch television nor even concentrate to read in my own living room that evening, but the soundtrack could be heard in the High Street. The event was set up without a word of consultation with us residents beforehand, just a belated and self-congratulatory paragraph in the Observer 'thanking' us for putting up with it!

So please, a little thought for those of us who don't complain and are happy to see our summer visitors enjoying themselves, but are concerned that, should the floodgates be opened any further, we will be swamped with harbour events and unable to enjoy our homes at all. And yes, we are privileged to live in such a beautiful place, but surely living in a beautiful place should not preclude us from the right of consideration enjoyed by other areas of Tenby?

Anne Bowles,
