'We are not reaching our target' - that's the alarming news from the Friends of Narberth Swimming Pool this week. Unless the Friends are able to raise sufficient funds to purchase a biomass boiler and make other energy improvements, Pembrokeshire County Council will be closing the facility. "There seems to be some confusion about when and how to contribute to the pool funds," said chair of the group and Mayor of the town, Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees. She explained: "We don't have to have the cash in the bank yet, we do need people to say they will invest, and let us know how much, so that we can add it to our total. "We are very grateful for all donations and fundraising activities, which have done a fantastic job, please keep up the good work! "But, if we are to reach our target of £200,000, we need people to invest in the pool, in the same way as you would invest in any other type of shares. The predicted interest rate is between three per cent to six per cent and if everything goes well, after three years, you be able to sell your shares back if you want to." Clr. Mrs. Rees continued: "If you have money invested in any savings account, you could offer to invest it in the pool instead. "You can get a form from Nobles, Jack Williams, Spar and Andrew Rees Butchers, just fill it out and let us know how much you will be able to invest in the pool, don't take it out of your savings yet, just let us know how much you can invest and we can add it to our total. "The minimum share investment is £200 and the maximum is £20,000. Please let us know you intend to invest as much as you can and help us to show Pembrokeshire County Council that the people of the Narberth area do intend to save their pool." And Clr. Mrs. Rees added: "Companies can't buy shares, but they can get generous tax breaks by sponsoring community initiatives."
