Sir,

My letter to the Observer was followed by your own "Hospital hopes rise" article, of January 17.

Now, on January 24, you have printed two good letters from Marjorie Bevan and Michael Williams. All point in the same direction, that we are all being conned!

Seven years of hard graft and misplaced trust in local and health authorities have yielded reams of paperwork and mere verbal promises but to what end?

It is more and more obvious that no fully discussed and agreed business plan has been circulated, not even a firm commitment on the true format of the hospital.

We would be grateful if someone would explain how it was possible to express interest in, and look forward to planning permission on, a site when we do not know whether it is large enough to contain a new hospital that in itself has not been agreed!

Even more worrying is how it is possible for a Finance Minister to announce an allocation of £10 million capital on an unspecified hospital and site?

It could well be that Marjorie Bevan is correct and that Nick Ainger and Christine Gwyther know all the answers and the truth of the project, if so please given them a date and reserve a full page in a forthcoming Observer, to print their letter and illuminate the rest to us!
