Peter Cronin, who is currently exhibiting his watercolours at The White Lion Street Gallery in Tenby, spent last Saturday demonstrating his skills to fellow artists and interested passers-by.

Having already drawn outside a tonal pencil sketch of the scene, he used this as his guide to the painting process. Rough outlines of the composition were drawn on clean paper, then water was applied with a large brush.

Colours for the sky were washed across the top of the paper and dripped to the floor. Colours for the roofs of Tenby followed, mixing with the previous wash and forming a base tone for the painting.

As the paint dried, so more detail could be added with smaller brushes and highlights preserved by the use of masking fluid were revealed.

Peter explained his thinking and actions as he painted, solving problems as they arose and answering questions from the audience throughout. His first painting was sold on the spot, and a second was started in the afternoon session.

The last opportunity to view Peter Cronin's exhibition is this weekend as it closes on Monday, June 28, and, for those who missed his demonstrations, a DVD of his techniques is available in the gallery. For further details, telephone 01834 843375.
