A travel writer, known as 'Travelling Welshman' - has been joined in his condemnation of lazy litterbugs, for leaving rubbish at Tenby beauty spots.

‘Travellingwelshman’ aka Nathan Dixon shared images on social media, over what he spotted after another hot and busy sunny day in the seaside town, on Sunday, July 12, with a wealth of litter left at picturesque spots such as the Paragon gardens, overlooking South Beach.

“Not everything on social media is picture perfect. This is the view I stumbled across this evening at one of my favourite spots to sit, reflect, and watch the sea...except today, it was covered in rubbish and the smell from what must've been the nappies was rank!” shared the Travellingwelshman.

“I even saw a nappy placed down a cute Tenby street ... why? Surely we shouldn't have to teach people not to litter?” added travel content creator Nathan, describing himself as ‘extremely passionate’ about his birth country of Wales.

Plenty of people responded to the images on Facebook, with those that don’t take away their litter with them slammed, but also a focus on the fact that many believe that an increase in public bins are much needed across Tenby.

One person shared: “We are a busy seaside resort, bring back the bigger bins and more of them instead of more benches!

“Why is PCC [Pembrokeshire County Council] so loath to spend any money in Tenby and area? We don’t have enough toilets open, no information centre, a run down multi-storey. A lot of money is raised through Council tax on second homes that don’t reach the 182 night criteria so put some back into the economy instead of all in Haverfordwest.

Another stated: “It drives me mad! Most dumped rubbish is left next to full bins - having just returned from Japan there are very few bins and very little rubbish! It's a completely different culture and we could learn a lot from it!”

In response to a suggestion that more ‘seagull-proof bins’ are needed for the summer season around the resort, another remarked: “But that won’t help if people try and ram stuff into already full bins or just leave it by the side of the bin.

“Sometimes at the height of the season, despite the council’s best efforts, bins get full before they can be emptied. It’s the morons who think it’s their ‘human right’ to leave rubbish by a full bin rather than taking it home who are at fault.

“It’s not rocket science it’s just that people are generally lazy and thick. Not a great combination.”

Another agreed: “This mess is nothing to do with lack of bins, size of bins or any actions taken by the Council. It is caused by people too lazy to take home their own rubbish. It is beyond appalling and I will never understand the reasoning for people leaving such a lovely place in such a mess.”

Volunteers organised by the ‘Time for Tenby’ group, regularly hold litter picks around the beaches and beauty spots, every Thursday evening from 6pm, starting from outside St Julian’s Church down the harbour, with anyone welcome to join in with the efforts.
