Anti-social behaviour, often fuelled by excessive alcohol, is topical not only nationally, but also, sadly, in Tenby.

In a bid to learn more about the options that will be soon available to both licensees and the members of the community, the committee of Tenby Walled Town Residents Association have arranged for a public meeting to discuss the new licensing laws that will come into force from October.

Chairman Richard Walker told the Tenby Observer: "We hope that the people of Tenby will attend the meeting and take the opportunity to be better informed and understand the powers that will soon become available to them. New legislation allows for potential 24-hour, seven days a week opening, as well as other changes. However, the act also encourages residents in any community to be proactive in influencing any development by having a say in matters that affect them. There are many aspects to this new legislation and the opportunities it will bring. Local residents will be able to make representations directly to the council who will become responsible for licensed premises, rather than the magistrates who presently have control."

The meeting will take place on Monday, May 17, at 7 pm, at the De Valance Pavilion, Upper Frog Street, Tenby. Guest speakers will be Tony Davies, of Dyfed-Powys Police, and Sarah Oliver from the licensing team at Pembrokeshire County Council.
