Staff from Whitland's Co-operative store joined up with Fairtrade campaigners from across Carmarthenshire last Wednesday to walk from Carmarthen to Whitland along the newly extended Carmarthenshire Fair Trade Way. The store also threw a welcome party for the walkers with Fairtrade refreshments. The original section of the route, from Ammanford to Carmarthen, was established last year, and walks organiser Phil Broadhurst said: "It's great to have this route going right across the county, linking Fairtrade towns, schools, shops, cafés and communities. As we walk, we are so inspired by all the different initiatives in our own communities working to promote Fair Trade to help farmers and producers in communities across the world." The 18-mile walk went from The Tea Shop in Carmarthen Park to the Whitland Co-operative store, with stops at Johnstown Primary School, Llangynog Village Hall and The Gate at St. Clears. Another walk is planned for October 16, continuing the route on into Pembrokeshire, from Whitland to Haverfordwest.
