A building maintenance inspector from Pembrokeshire County Council will embark on a ‘walkabout’ of Tenby’s Castle Hill after concerns were raised about the conditions of the historic walls.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the town clerk Andrew Davies that Richard Lawrence from PCC would join Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas for an inspection of the Castle Hill area, after she recently told Tenby’s ‘liaison link officer’ Richard Brown, who is also PCC’s head of environment and civil contingencies, that she feared the walls were ‘deteriorating rapidly’ and had suffered extensive weed damage.

Clr. Mrs. Thomas also enquired if any funding could be uncovered to help preserve the resort’s historic town and castle walls, under an ancient landmarks or heritage scheme.

Mr. Davies told members that the building maintenance inspector would meet with Clr. Mrs. Thomas whilst he was in town to check on the Five Arches, where scaffolding was erected last week, after health and safety concerns were raised centring on the quality of some of the stonework, in the current dry weather conditions.
