There was blooming great news in Saundersfoot yesterday (Thursday). The village's Sensory Gardens won the best community environmental scheme in this year's prestigious Wales in Bloom awards. Former chairman of the community council and the village's county council representative, Clr. Mrs. Rosemary Hayes, was delighted with the news. "I really am over the moon," she said. Elsewhere, the Beachdean Leisure Park, Reynalton, scooped second place in the caravan (static or touring) section for sites with under 50 units, while Tenby's Fourcroft Hotel was awarded a merit award in the hotels, guest houses, public houses and restaurants section. "The judge's comments included 'the view from the mediterranean style front garden is spectacular, and among the best in Wales'," a delighted Chris Osborne told the Observer yesterday (Thursday). "The judges also commented that, although the garden is steeply sloping to the beach, good terracing and planting has turned this to an advantage," he continued. "The judge also felt that selection of, and maintenance of the plants was excellent - it was just a pity the road separated the hotel from the garden." Chris said the gardening team - his sister and father - were delighted with this new accolade.
