Volunteers are sought to help clean up one of Carmarthenshire's most beautiful beaches. Marros Beach lies between Pendine and Amroth and can only be reached on foot. It is isolated and peaceful and commands clear and panoramic views of Carmarthen Bay. Apart from the detritus of plastic waste and flotsam that has been washed up by the tide over the years, it remains untouched by the 20th century.

"We want to keep it that way, said Jeremy Bowen Rees, leader of the Marros Coastcare Group. "Help is required to return the beach to its natural state by firstly removing all non bio-degradable matter. Once this is done we need to maintain it as a clean and tranquil place to visit."

This beach mission is the first in Carmarthenshire and part of a national Coastcare Project within the Keep Wales Tidy initiative. So if you, your family, business or school are interested in helping out you can phone Jeremy Bowen Rees on 01994 240631 or email him on [email protected]">[email protected].

Coastcare is suitable for large or small groups and volunteers of any age. The Coastcare scheme encourages local groups to adopt and maintain their chosen stretches of the Welsh coastline. There are currently 14 groups in Pembrokeshire and three in North Wales.

Groups that join the project are provided with small grants from the registered charity to pay for insurance, equipment and other expenses. If you would like to join or start a Coastcare Group in your area, contact Keep Wales Tidy's coastal project office on 01646 681949.
