The first meeting of 2008 of the Tenby Visually Impaired People Group was held on Tuesday at the Avenue Centre, Tenby. Chairman, John Webb, welcomed 23 members to the annual general meeting, and wished everyone a very happy and healthy new year, and the roll call was then taken. Secretary, Margaret Walker, read the minutes of the 2006 AGM, which were accepted and signed, and she then gave her report on the activities that had taken place during the year.
Betty Gordon, treasurer, then presented the balance sheet, which proved the group to be in a healthy financial position.
John thanked both ladies for all their hard work, together with the project workers for the Visually Impaired, Elly Morgan and Tom Forgaard.
The election of officers resulted in everyone remaining in post, but members were sorry to note that vice-chairman, Jim Hatcher, was not well enough to attend the meeting and he was wished a speedy recovery.
There was some discussion regarding speakers and outings for the coming year, and everyone agreed that the lunch in September and a Christmas afternoon in December had been successful. Welcome refreshments were then served by Nesta Williams and Margaret Johns, of Saundersfoot Inner Wheel, and this month's raffle winners were Iris Roblin, Gwen Gilson and Reg Peacock.
The afternoon concluded with everyone joining in two quizzes taken from a CD, there being a wealth of knowledge on music from the 60s and the old films.
Saundersfoot Rotary Club and the PBS minibus then took members home after a very enjoyable afternoon.
If any visually impaired person is interested in joining the group, please contact Margaret Walker on 843464.
