A growing number of holiday-makers are visiting the county especially for Pembrokeshire Fish Week, a survey has shown. Nearly half (48 per cent) of tourists surveyed during Fish Week this year said the annual festival had influenced their decision to come. A sample of their comments included 'Visited area especially for Fish Week. Love it, keep it going, thank you', and 'Fish Week is excellent. As visitors from Holland we plan our regular visits to Pembrokeshire around events such as Fish Week'. Businesses who took part in Fish Week were also surveyed. Nearly half (49 per cent) said the festival had generated extra tourism, or raised the profile of the county, and many reported extra income of up to 50 per cent. All the businesses surveyed rated Fish Week as beneficial to Pembrokeshire, and 95 per cent rated it as excellent or good. More than 15,000 people attended the festival in June this year, enjoying nearly 150 events all over Pembrokeshire. Organiser and food officer for Pembrokeshire County Council, Kate Morgan, said they were now looking forward in earnest to Fish Week 2008. The festival will be launched at its traditional venue of Milford Haven on Saturday, June 21, and will continue until June 29. "Fish Week 2008 promises to be bigger and better than ever, with lots of exciting new events coming onboard - we'll be able to give more details in the New Year," said Kate. Fish Week was recently short-listed in the 'Best Event Major in Wales' category in the prestigious Welsh National Tourism Awards. The category sought to reward those events offering visitors a top-quality experience with the potential to attract new visitors from outside the local area and raise Wales' profile as an events host 'extraordinaire'.
